La nuova tecnologia cambia profondamente l’approccio: qualità migliore, una risoluzione più elevata per i contenuti e soprattutto un nuovo standard di codifica per la compressione video.
HEVC è l’acronimo di High Efficiency Video Coding (codec video ad alta efficienza, in italiano) e indica uno standard per la compressione dei contenuti video. Per poter trasmettere un filmato su un televisore è necessario trasformarlo in un flusso di dati digitali. Il compito del codec è proprio questo: trasformare un qualsiasi video in un contenuto digitale, in modo che un PC o un qualsiasi altro apparecchio possa riprodurlo. Lo standard HEVC, definito anche H.265, è uno dei più recenti e permette la riproduzione dei contenuti fino a una risoluzione 8K. Per questo motivo è stato scelto per il nuovo digitale terrestre di seconda generazione.
